Role Summary:
As a Purchasing Officer at our client’s retail chain, you will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and negotiating with suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services. You will play a key role in optimizing procurement processes, managing supplier relationships, and maintaining inventory levels to support store operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and source new suppliers and vendors for goods and services, negotiate pricing and terms, and establish contracts and agreements to ensure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including inventory managers, store managers, and finance teams, to determine purchasing needs, forecast demand, and plan procurement activities.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders, track order status, and follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of goods and services and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
  • Monitor and analyze supplier performance, including quality, delivery, and pricing, and take appropriate action to address any issues or concerns and ensure compliance with contract terms.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchasing activities, including supplier contracts, purchase orders, invoices, and receipts, and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Evaluate and assess supplier capabilities, capacity, and reliability, and conduct supplier audits and assessments to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements in procurement activities, including vendor consolidation, bulk purchasing, and inventory management, to optimize procurement efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Stay informed about market trends, industry developments, and supplier capabilities, and leverage insights to inform procurement decisions and strategies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, preferably in the retail or consumer goods industry.
  • Strong understanding of procurement principles, processes, and best practices, including strategic sourcing, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and systems, with experience in using ERP systems and e-procurement tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
