Role Summary:
Our client is seeking to hire a Medical Laboratory Technician in Lagos, Nigeria, to perform various laboratory procedures, including phlebotomy, specimen collection, and testing. The role involves ensuring accuracy, maintaining quality standards, and providing excellent customer service. Responsibilities:
• Perform phlebotomy by adhering to standard procedure of blood collection.
• Perform collection of body fluid specimens, swab, and other types of specimens utilized for testing in the laboratory.
• Perform non-specialized tests in the assigned area of the laboratory.
• Perform sample preparation, processing, packaging and transfer/transport in compliance with the standards and quality plan/document of the laboratory.
• Evaluate specimen adequacy and integrity for test performance.
• Analyze technical problems pertaining to specimen adequacy, integrity, determine cause and rectifies problems in accordance with guidelines and procedures.
• Perform, evaluate, and document quality control data in compliance with the quality plan/document of the department.
• Perform testing on proficiency testing samples.
• Perform instrumentation troubleshooting to correct problems; refer problems appropriately to instrument vendors.
• Prepare reagents and solutions in accordance with established guidelines.
• Assist with inventory management of supplies and assure that laboratory areas remain stocked with needed supplies.
• Respond to customer inquiries about laboratory results.
• Participate in in-service education programs.
• Participate in the preparation for all inspections by accrediting agencies.
• Participate in training of new employees, interns, residents, and students.
• Maintain confidentiality of patients, families and staff.
• Adhere to customer service standards of hospital and department.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned; Omission of specific duties does not preclude assignment of duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as a medical laboratory technician.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques and specimen collection procedures.
• Strong understanding of laboratory testing methodologies and procedures.
• Knowledge of quality control principles and practices.
• Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and troubleshooting techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in performing laboratory tests and procedures.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
• Ability to maintain composure and professionalism when dealing with challenging situations.
